Poster & Map Framing Houston

A poster is easy to underestimate. It’s often the thing people frame first — something they love but feel a little sheepish about bringing to a proper frame shop. Don’t. A well-framed poster looks extraordinary. And a vintage or antique map, framed with the right mat and moulding, is genuinely one of the most striking pieces of wall art there is. At Hollywood Frame Gallery, we’ve been framing posters and maps for 30 years, and we put the same craft into them that we do into fine art.

Custom Poster Framing: Beyond the Tube

Most posters spend their lives either rolled up in a tube, tacked to a wall with pushpins, or stuck in a cheap plastic frame that doesn’t fit quite right. None of those options does justice to a piece you actually care about. Custom framing changes the entire experience — the poster gets a mat that gives it breathing room, a frame that complements its colors, and glazing that protects it from fading. Something that felt casual suddenly looks intentional.

We frame all types of posters: concert and music posters, vintage film posters, travel and tourism prints, botanical and scientific illustrations, architectural drawings, and art reproduction prints. Whatever the subject, we’ll help you choose a frame and mat combination that elevates the piece rather than just containing it.

Archival Framing for Posters Worth Preserving

Not all posters are created equal — and some of them are genuinely valuable. Original vintage concert posters, rare film posters, and limited-edition art prints can be worth significant money, and framing them incorrectly accelerates their deterioration. Acid in the mat board can yellow and stain the paper. Cheap glazing lets UV light bleach the inks over time. We offer full archival framing for posters worth protecting, using acid-free materials and UV-filtering glazing throughout.

If you’re not sure what you’ve got, bring it in. We can assess the paper, printing method, and condition and help you decide what level of protection makes sense.

Vintage and Antique Map Framing

Framed antique maps are one of those pieces that look magnificent in almost any room. Whether it’s an 18th-century European cartographic print, a vintage Texas survey map, an old Houston street atlas, or a mid-century National Geographic map of a place that matters to you — a properly framed map becomes a genuine conversation piece and a beautiful object in its own right.

Maps present a few specific framing considerations worth knowing about. Old paper is often fragile and benefits from full archival treatment — acid-free matting, UV protection, and reversible mounting. Maps that have been folded along grid lines need careful handling to avoid stressing the paper at those crease points. And many antique maps have substantial visual weight that benefits from a mat with generous proportions to give the image room to breathe. We’ll walk you through all of this at your consultation.

Large-Format Framing

We frame large-format posters and prints that many shops can’t accommodate — oversized concert prints, large architectural drawings, big travel posters, and wide-format photography prints. If you’ve got something larger than standard, don’t assume it can’t be framed well. Come in with your piece and dimensions and we’ll tell you exactly what’s possible.

A Note on Standard vs. Custom Sizing

Poster sizes are notoriously inconsistent. A ‘standard’ 24 x 36 poster from one printer is often slightly different from a ‘standard’ 24 x 36 from another — and ready-made frames almost never account for that variation. Custom framing cuts the mat to your exact print dimensions, so there are no awkward gaps and no cramped edges. It’s one of those details that seems small until you see the difference side by side.
